Sarah is a 3rd year PhD student in Comp Lit and French. She holds degrees in experimental art and critical studies from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and in feminist and gender studies from Goldsmiths College, London. Her broad interests include 19th – 20th century French and German philosophy, criticism, literature and other texts. Her current work examines philosophical and literary representations of convalescence in Nietzsche, Proust, Freud, Deleuze & Guattari, and Blanchot. A chunk of this project recently appeared as an article titled "From Hypochondria to Convalescence: Health and Chronic Critique in Nietzsche, Deleuze and Guattari," in Deleuze Studies 4.2. For the past two years, she has produced research-based performances in order to concretize, problematize and (hopefully) explode the issues at hand in her work. In 2009 she performed "Nonliving Pleasures: A Haunting of Foucault's March 12 Abnormal Lecture" at Studio 34, an experimental art space in Philadelphia, and then again in 2010 as part of a workshop on queer method at Northwestern's own Queertopia conference. In 2010, she performed "To Eat, to Speak, to Skirt, or, Plumbing for Deleuzians," first at Studio 34 and then again at the Deleuze Studies "Connect, Create, Continue" conference at the University of Amsterdam. Sarah is a fellow at the Jones Fine & Performing Arts Residential College, where she enjoys collaborating on events with undergrads, giving talks and workshops, and generally communing with her students and others that make up their community. She is also President of Northwestern's Queer Pride Graduate Student Association, sits as delegate for QPGSA on the Graduate Leadership Council, and won the Weinberg Outstanding Graduate Student Teacher award for 2009-10.
